Kahilu Theatre keiki to perform

Kahilu Theatre in Waimea presents the finale of its Keiki Performing Arts Workshop at 2 p.m. today with students performing for friends and family.

The finale is open to the public and free of charge. Everyone is welcome to see all that has been accomplished by the Kahilu Youth Troupe instructors and the talented keiki.

Shriners staff available in Kona

Shriners Hospitals for Children pediatric orthopaedic specialists will be will be seeing children from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Kona Baptist Church, 78-7156 Puuloa Road in Kailua-Kona.

If your child has a bone, joint or muscle condition such as scoliosis, sports injuries or any other orthopaedic issues, Shriners specialists can help. Shriners cares for children 18 years old and younger and accepts insurance or no insurance, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.

Dr. Jonathan Pellett will be the attending pediatric orthopaedic surgeon.

Lunch, mediation sessions planned

With a focus on “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace,” the Kuikahi Mediation Center invites the public to the first of a free brown-bag lunch series at noon Thursday at HomeStreet Bank in Hilo.

The monthly sessions will feature speakers discussing topics related to communication, dispute prevention and resolution and transforming conflict. This month’s topic is “Foreclosure Mediation: Helping Borrowers and Lenders Work it Out,” with Kuikahi foreclosure dispute resolution specialist Brian Nussbaum.

‘Bamboo Fun’ at Liliuokalani

“Bamboo Fun in the Garden” is happening 8 a.m.-3 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the bamboo thicket near the corner of Banyan Drive and Lihiwai Street in Liliuokalani Gardens. There is no charge to attend.

The purpose of the event is to clean the overgrown bamboo thicket and make use of the material. Educational presentations on making bamboo stamps, nose flutes, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, vases, brooms and other craft items will be offered each day after materials are gathered and prepared.
